Ellen McCarthy

Assistant Principal

I welcome all newcomers to the Mountain View family. This school is a true community which celebrates the success of its members. This past year we had many opportunities to celebrate as we marked our tenth anniversary while the school garnered awards and grants, from VFW Social Studies Teacher of the Year for Kim Thomas, and the Business Partnership of the Year with the Herndon-Dulles Chamber of Commerce to the AOL grant which will assist us in continuing our redesign of the Media Center.

This year will be another year of growth for the school as we plan to more fully utilize the building and expand our course offerings. Mountain View will be the first alternative high school in the county to offer foreign language, as we open courses in Spanish for Fluent Speakers.

I have worked in Fairfax County Schools for more than 20 years at the middle school, high school and central office levels. Now in my third year at Mountain View, I enjoy more than ever the opportunity to touch young lives and build a better community, not just at this school, but in Fairfax County. I invite you to join in this endeavor.

Assistant Principal

I have been a social studies teacher in Fairfax County for 9 years; over 2 of those years were served at Mountain View where I taught World History and Geography II.  I now serve the school utilizing my leadership skills.

With a passion for education and alternative learners, I love Mountain View and am ecstatic about working with students with the last names N-Z.  In addition to my commitment to the students, I will be working closely with Career Services, the ever-expanding Media Center, and Elective department.

Mountain View helps students obtain a high school diploma and build their skills to be life-long learners and good citizens.  What better way to impact education than to serve all facets of learning through leadership as an assistant principal.  At Mountain View the sky is the limit because the teachers, staff and students work as a team to complete courses and pass SOLs to achieve graduation.

I am a member of a team, and I rely on the team, I defer to it and sacrifice for it, because the team, not the individual, is the ultimate champion.  ~Mia Hamm
