I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Jim Oliver and I am honored and privileged to be the principal of Mountain View Alternative High School. I am very excited to be a part of the Mountain View family. I can truly say that it is one of the most rewarding experiences in my 29 years as an educator. I look forward to working with you to ensure the best educational experience for your student.
Prior to coming to Mountain View, I was an Assistant Principal, teacher, and coach at Centreville High for fifteen years. I also worked at Herndon and Langley High Schools. My past experiences in education include working as a Hispanic Liaison, Minority Achievement Committee member and AP teacher. These experiences have helped me better understand the true concept of “alternativeness” that makes Mountain View such a rewarding and wonderful place for student instruction.
I am also very excited to inform you that Mountain View is in the move! We are one of eight schools nationwide that was awarded a $10,000 grant from AOL. This money will be used to make our library a more conducive place for students to learn and gather. Another program that we are excited about is our Electronic Portfolio Project that showcases students’ work as they prepare for exiting the View.
Mountain View is truly one of the finest schools in Fairfax County. We believe that all students can succeed and prosper at Mountain View. In order to provide this experience, research has indicated that students with parents who stay involved in their children’s school affairs achieve better than those who don’t. I encourage all parents to stay informed of the activities that will take place during the academic school year. I would like to include some very important dates to assist you in this endeavor. Please check our Activities Calendar for more details.
