17 Year Old Students Before sending a request to the Alternative School Programs office to transfer a student to Mountain View School, communication between the counselors or administrators from both the base school and Mountain View School must take place to determine appropriateness of placement. The base school completes the Alternative Education Placement referral form, encloses a copy of the discipline file, a current transcript including test scores, copy of the parent request, and forwards the packet to the Alternative School Programs office for approval. Upon receipt of an approval letter from the Alternative School Programs office, the base school must forward the student’s discipline file to Mountain View. (If no discipline file exists, please send a written statement to that effect). The parent may call for an appointment to register the student after Mountain View has received the discipline file, the Alternative School Programs approval, and an updated Fairfax County transcript with test scores.
Project Opportunity (Pregnant & Parenting Teen Program) students must follow the above procedures.
Students Age 18 or Older Approval from the Alternative School Programs office is not required. Upon receipt of the students discipline file and an updated Fairfax County transcript with test scores from the base school, the student may call for an appointment to register. If the student is denied enrollment, all records will be returned to the base school. Concurrent StudentsStudents wishing to earn additional credits at Mountain View may call for an appointment after obtaining the following: A Permission to Enroll form (IS-303) completed by the base school guidance counselor. An updated Fairfax County transcript. $600.00 fee for each class.
Students Receiving Special Education Services (Age 17 and above) Placement at Mountain View is determined by the IEP team. The student’s base school must initiate an IEP, and a representative from the Mountain View Special Education Department must attend. Prior to the IEP meeting, the base school must send to Mountain View a copy of the current IEP, current eligibility packet, updated Fairfax County Public Schools transcript, testing history, discipline file, and attendance records. A complete packet, including the Placement referral form, must also be sent to the Alternative Schools Programs Office. Expulsion Cases If a student is placed at Mountain View School, an entry conference must be held between the student, the parent and the principal of Mountain View. The transcript and the discipline file must be received before this conference is held. If the student is eligible for special education services, placement also requires an IEP team decision. See above for details.
