Special Education Staff

Molly Flatley ,
Department Chair

I earned both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Special Education from Kent State University. Additionally, I earned a Master’s degree in Education Leadership from George Mason University. I hold endorsements in administration and supervision, emotional disturbance, mental retardation, specific learning disabilities, and I am also a reading specialist. I have been with Fairfax County Public Schools for over ten years, working previously at Falls Church High School and South County Secondary School. I am very excited to join the Mountain View Family this year and am honored to work with such amazing students and staff.

Laura Leydon

Years ago, I was invited to a Mountain View graduation by a former student. I found the stories of the students so inspirational and the ceremony so moving that I knew I had to be a part of this very special place. Today, I feel so fortunate to be a part of the Mountain View family where the words “family, love, respect” are not just listed on the wall, but are in the hearts of both the students and the faculty. Working with the English, Social Studies, and Math departments affords me the opportunity to connect with students academically and individually. Believe me when I say the learning flows both ways. Like most of the students here at Mountain View, I too have come from another school. For me that other school was Robinson Secondary were I worked for seven years in literally every department supporting students in both general and special education settings and supporting several after school clubs and organizations. While I loved my time as a Robinson Ram, I feel wonderfully fulfilled as a Mountain View Timber Wolf.

As a special education resource teacher, I provide individual support as well as classroom-based support in the math and science departments.  This is my ninth year in the county, and I have taught at Cedar Lane School and Westfield H.S.  Prior to working for FCPS, I taught at an alternative school in Chicago after graduate school.  I have been familiar with the program at Mountain View for some time now, and I am very happy to have an opportunity to work here.
