JUST FOR STUDENTS!

Tips for maintaining your English skills over the summer:

1)  Read
R
eading is the perfect way to improve your spelling, vocabulary, and keep up your English skills.  Even just one book over the summer will help to keep your mind focused on English.  So don’t forget to read this summer.  Check out the FCPS summer reading lists.

2)  Get a job
You have to try harder to find opportunities to speak English.  Putting yourself in a position in which you have to speak English daily is a great way to get practice.  It will also help you to gain more confidence in your English speaking skills.

3)  Watch TV
Try to watch 30 minutes of TV per day; but don’t just sit there!  While you watch, test yourself.  See if you can really understand what is being said.  Mix it up—watch the news to get practice understanding formal speech, and watch soap operas or sitcoms to get practice understanding more informal speech and slang.
