Welcome to Mosby Woods Elementary School! We are so glad that you have visited our web page, and hope that you learn much about our wonderful school and its offerings. Mosby Woods is a warm, learner-centered environment where the staff believes that all children can learn.

We are so proud of our school, which is over 30 years old, and is often the center of community activity. Our fields and playgrounds are in constant use in the evenings and on weekends, and parents visit us regularly.

We cultivate pride in our country while also celebrating diversity at Mosby Woods. Our staff and students hail from 43 countries and speak 27 languages, and we consider this one of our greatest strengths. We celebrate our multicultural community every day, but have special observances at our annual International Night program.

Parents are welcomed as partners in education at Mosby Woods. Our PTA sponsors an after school course in Hands-On Science to students, and Foreign Language Instruction for those interested.

Many of our teachers participate in a Teachers As Readers book club, in which they read and discuss professional books linked to current educational practices. Our schoolwide focus this year is on enhancing our written language instruction , and literature on this theme will form the basis of our Teachers as Readers study groups. As they broaden their knowledge, they challenge each other to try new strategies and make learning even richer for children.

Approximately 630 students attend Mosby Woods. This includes children in kindergarten through sixth grade, as well as one FECEP (Headstart) class and a center for students who are identified Gifted and Talented (GT). Additional programs that serve our students include:

  • An inclusion-model program for the learning disabled, and students needing speech therapy
  • FECEP, an early start preschool program, for three through five
  • SACC, School Age Child Care, in the morning and afternoon for all children too young to be home alone and who qualify for the program.
  • English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) for students acquiring English proficiency
  • Gifted/Talented services for identified G/T students; teachers collaborate with the G/T teacher to offer an enriched program for all students
  • A school partnership with Verizon, MSD, Oakton High School
  • Student leadership opportunities: Student Council Association, START(Students As Resources for Technology), AAA Safety and Bus Patrols, book buddies and Mosby Woods Mustang News team
  • CETA (Changing Education Through the Arts), a partnership with the Kennedy Center that helps teachers impact student learning through arts integrated instruction
