Dear Highlander families,
It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the 2009-20010 school
year! I would especially like to extend a special welcome
to the new Class of 2013 and to those who are new to our community. It is
indeed a pleasure to begin a new school year at McLean High School,
and I look forward to celebrating the many accomplishments that our students
will achieve. McLean
High School is routinely
recognized for educational excellence by our SOL
and AP test scores. Last year, US News and World Report and Newsweek Magazine ranked McLean High School
among the top 100 high schools in the country. Such recognition does not occur
by chance. It is the result of three things: motivated students, supportive
parents, and dedicated staff members.
This year, we opened our doors to 1855 students. This is an increase over the previous year;
thus, class sizes are little larger than in the past. While the class size is larger, our very qualified
and talented teaching staff is ready and prepared to receive them. I would encourage all of our students to approach
the experience with a positive attitude and openness to possibilities. The
campus tradition of a highly involved and engaged
student body is one we want to
build upon, especially as we continue to raise the bar for
all of our students. Our goals
for the year include a continued emphasis on students as
life long learners, effective
use of technology, effective communication, service to the community, and the use of
critical thinking and problem solving skills.
An additional goal for the year is to further develop our links with the
community. These positive links will support our students in their learning and
enhance their whole educational experience. Students who play a full and active
role in the life of the school gain so much more and are better prepared for
future challenges. We would encourage all students to involve themselves in the
extra-curricular programs, which includes both sporting and non-sporting
choices. I look forward to seeing all my Highlander families at school events
throughout the year as just one example of showing Highlander Pride.
As
principal of McLean
High School
, I wish each
of you a successful academic year
.

Make
dreams real,
Dr.
