The major change for students is that parking spaces are no longer reserved, as they have been in past years.
The changes in the parking procedure have been made
necessary because of increased class sizes, and anticipated increases in
student population over the next several years. Before we had our parking lot
expanded during renovation, the waiting list for parking permits was typically
70-90 students. This meant that these students were not permitted to park on
school grounds, as there were not enough parking spaces available. To avoid
this situation, the new parking policy was implemented, modeled after other
high schools in
Parents and students alike have questioned how we can sell more permits than we have spaces. The answer is simple. During the school day, we have many students that travel to other schools during the morning and afternoon. We also have students that leave early for co-op classes (jobs). In past years, one could drive through the parking lots during the day and find many unused spaces. While these students are attending classes at other schools and leaving for jobs, we can use these spaces in their absence.
These are the rules for parking on school grounds:
Students that have received their 3rd unpaid
parking ticket will have their vehicle towed at the vehicle owner’s expense.
Adherence to these rules is imperative to make the new parking policy work for both students and staff. This year we were able to issue parking permits to every student that applied. Without these new procedures, 38 students would currently be on a waiting list. The security staff monitors the parking lot several times a day, and have reported that we have an average of 65 open spaces throughout the school day.
