v     Resources

 

The MHS library has a variety of resources for your academic needs as well as your personal enjoyment. The library has an extensive collection of nonfiction and fiction books, and a reference collection of general and specialized encyclopedias, dictionaries, atlases, and almanacs. Videos, CDs, and DVDs and CDs are available for use. The library subscribes to a variety of magazines and 3 daily national newspapers. Library computers provide access to MS word processing programs, the catalog, and internet resources.

The online resources are also available at home. Access information is available by logging on to your FCPS 24/7 Blackboard account using a link from the library home page or the MHS home page.

 

v     Hours

 
The library opens at 7:00 AM. each day. It closes at 3:30 Tuesday and Wednesday, 4:00 Monday and Thursday, and 3:00 on Friday.

 

v     Circulation Procedures

 

Students give their student ID number to the library staff when checking out books. Three books at a time may be checked out for three weeks. Books may be renewed for an additional three weeks.  Fines are charged for overdue books, at a rate of $ .10 per day for a maximum charge of $ 10.00 per book. 

 

v     Services

 

The MHS Library staff is here to help you succeed in school!  In the library students can complete research for projects, receive help locating books and online resources and creating presentations in MS Power Point and Publisher. Students may sign up to use video editing equipment. Staff can recommend books for school assignments or personal reading. The Library Book Club is open to all students. 

 

Supplies such as CD-Rs, poster board, and transparencies are available for sale.  Other supplies such as markers, glue, tape, rulers, and scissors may be borrowed.  Black and white and color printers, scanners, and a copy machine are available with minimal charge. 

 

Students may borrow equipment such as digital cameras, camcorders, and boom boxes for daily use.

v     Expectations

 

The library is a place for quiet study and homework. It is not an appropriate place for group discussions. Students are expected to:

  • talk quietly
  • leave food, candy, and drinks outside.
  • turn off cell phones
  • not use headsets during the school day
  • use computers only for school work and following the acceptable use policy. Use of E-mail, online shopping, and games are not allowed on school computers
