*MILITARY INFORMATION NIGHTS Several high schools in FCPS host
representatives from the military services throughout the year. Students and
families from high schools around the county are invited. The following sessions
have been scheduled:

SERVICE ACADEMIES
The
RESERVE OFFICERS
TRAINING CORPS (ROTC) The ROTC program provides the opportunity to attend a
civilian college while studying military leadership as part of a total
undergraduate program. ROTC is a college
elective, which requires about four hours per week. It is offered at hundreds of campuses.

University
Full scholarships for exceptional (over 1000 SAT, 3.0+GPA, active in
activities, etc.) candidates and numerous partial scholarships apply as a
senior. Affiliated with National Guard
and Reserve 100% paid tuition programs we can assure they do not get deployed
during college; full scholarships for nursing students; the individual will
maintain a civilian life during college and after, if so desired, have an
option to serve part or full-time in Army in one of 20 different fields.
MILITARY ENLISTMENT Opportunities
for enlistment are plentiful. The five
services offer over hundreds of schools and courses of instruction. This training and the experience that follows
give the military veteran an advantage in the civilian world.
Enlisting
in military service right after high school is an option. The services provide job training in many
fields as well as opportunities for enlistees to take college-level courses.
The services also can help students build a college fund.
The
U.S. National Guard consists of two components: the Army National Guard and the
Air National Guard. Its mission is to
serve the state in times of natural disaster or civil disturbance, and the
nation in time of war. Flexible
scheduling makes it possible to combine service in the Guard with work or
school. The Guard meets one weekend per
month and two weeks in the summer.
