Student Success Seminars
The McLean High School
Guidance Department will offer Student Success Seminars for those students who
want to improve their grades. These Success Seminars are designed to equip
students with tools, techniques, hints, ideas, examples, and suggestions for
improving their academic performance. The
Success Seminars will be held in the
____Learning Styles: Friday, February 9th (7:15 –
7:55)
This
seminar covers several different learning styles. Students will find out if
they are an Auditory (hearing), Visual (seeing) or Kinesthetic (hands on)
learner.
____Planning For Success: Friday, March 2nd (7:15 –
7:55)
Students
will learn how to effectively manage their time and stop the cycle of
procrastination.
____Getting the Most Out
of Classes: Friday, March 9th
(7:15-
7:55)
Students
will become skilled at Listening, Note-Taking and Class participation.
____Test Taking/Test Stress: Friday, March 16th (7:15 – 7:55)
Students
will learn test-taking strategies, what they should do before, during and after
a test and how to reduce test stress.
____Mnemonic Devices:
Friday, March 23rd (7:15 – 7:55)
Students
will explore memory techniques using acronyms, rhymes,
and other parts of
language to recall information.
____Study Strategies:
Friday, March 30th (7:15 – 7:55)
This
seminar will explore positive study environments, tips for improving
concentration levels, Guidance news and a free breakfast
for those students who attended all six Success Seminars.
