MASCOT: The Highlander, selected to represent the Scottish heritage of the town of McLean.

NAME OF THE SCHOOL-McLean High School was named after the community of McLean. The town of McLean received its name from John Roll McLean, one of the founders of the Washington and Old Dominion Railways. A railroad stop was named after McLean and it was at the intersection of Old Dominion Drive and Chain Bridge Road, about a mile from the school. The community was formed about four years later.The public school opened its doors in 1955 and celebrated a 50th reunion in 2005.

FEEDER SCHOOLS: Middle School is Longfellow and the elementary schools are Chesterbrook, Franklin, Haycock, Kent Gardens, Colvin Run and Timberlane
