Senior Class Dates and Information
Fire Lane Reminder
This is a reminder that marked fire lanes and handicapped parking rules should be observed during and, especially, after school and during night activities. There have been recent complaints from the community about cars parking in fire lanes after school. The police department can and will write parking tickets to those who violate parking signs. Please do not park in fire lanes at any time.
Art is Alive at McLean
McLean art students were recently featured on FCPS' Red Apple 21 Television program. In this segment, we see how our students benefit from teachers whose talents extend beyond the school’s walls. Please click on this link for the streaming video (5:44) http://www.fcps.edu/DIT/streaming/is12_artisalivemclean.asx or click on this link for some of the stills http://www.fcps.edu/DIT/streaming/stills/artisalivemclean.jpg It's always nice to be featured for doing something good! Outstanding Science!
We learned on Friday that McLean had 6 teams of students earned Honorable Mention for the NSTA Toshiba/Exploravision Contest. The projects included: Voice Recognition Translator, Mind Interpreting Neurological Device, Corona Contacts, Smart Jacket, Hydrogen Power Plant and LaserLight Reflecting Fireworks. http://www.exploravision.org/ has more information about the contest.
This is awesome, especially when considering that there are 6 Regional winners and the next level of placement is Honorable Mention. Thanks to the Honors Biology and Chemistry teachers who oversaw the teams in their research. A lot of work went into the drafts and research requirements to get to the finished products! Great job! What does McLean Offer to Help Students Succeed?
A couple of months ago the administrative/guidance teams were discussing the many things we do to help students be successful at McLean, and we thought it would be a good idea to let people know what we have so they may take advantage of some services. Please click here to see the list - good luck! (January)
If you would like to advise the McLean Safety and Security staff of a concern or problem, please feel free to call the Security Tip Line at 703 714-5818. At this number you can leave an anonymous message and our security personnel will follow up on the tip with the appropriate action.
Blackboard, also known as 24/7, is an online resource that allows Fairfax County Public Schools, FCPS, to extend learning beyond the traditional school day and beyond school facilities. Students, parents, and teachers are invited to use FCPS 24-7 Learning to access homework and classroom assignments, view class calendars, explore links to enrichment activities, and much more. Click on the image at the bottom of this section to go to FCPS 24/7.
At McLean, all teachers are minimally required to have a Blackboard site that includes contact information, course syllabi, and all major assignments. All of our teacher's sites are to be updated weekly, so check back frequently. We hope students, parents, and teachers will make the most of this communication tool to improve student achievement.
