Course: AP World History

Prerequisites: Most students will have had World History I or some equivalent course prior to taking AP World History

Short Course Description: AP World History will examine the history of the human experience from the Neolithic Revolution to the present day.  This world history course is taught from a global perspective with more emphasis on global processes and patterns than the standard World History II course.  Students study events and people through the analysis of primary source documents and an examination of changes & continuities over time. The course emphasizes critical thinking and the analytical writing skills necessary for success in both a college level history course as well as the AP World History Exam.

Summer Assignment: Yes, students will be expected to complete an assignment associated with the first unit of the course.

Work Load during the School Year: The course is reading intensive, with students expected to cover approximately 100 pages per week.  Note taking on reading material is expected.  Students will be required to write two to four AP-style essays per quarter with frequent writing assignments between essay examinations.  Comprehensive multiple-choice exams are given approximately every three weeks.

Special Course Information: The first quarter is an extremely fast-paced review and testing of material learned in World History I, plus additional material.  Students who have not had World History I will be greatly challenged in the first quarter of the course.

Available Support: Teachers are available during office hours and after school.  In addition, there are recommended review texts available.
