Janet Arnowitz team teaches Active Physics, Geosystems, and Algebra 2. She graduated from Trenton State College with a BS in special education, and Virginia Tech with a MS in vocational special education. She is an expert racquetball, waterskiing, snow skier and works out with weights 4 to five days a week. She has been a participant in the Marshall social committee and volunteers in the weight training classes assisting students with technique. Mrs. Arnowitz shares personal family stories about the Holocaust and genetic diseases with content area classes including Biology and World History. Mrs. Arnowitz plans on retiring in 3 years and looks forward to spend more time with her 8 y.o. son and Golden Retriever puppy, sing in community productions, paint, shop and sleep. |

Stephen Bartlett teaches Physics 1, IB-1 Physics, and IB-2 Physics SL & HL. He sponsors the guitar club and is the contact teacher for our annual science fair activities. Mr. Bartlett graduated from U. of Maryland with a BS in physics, and later received a graduate MS degree in Applied Physics & Engineering from George Mason. Before teaching, Mr. Bartlett spent 25 years working as an Engineering-Scientist in the fields of wireless and fiber optic communications and small-satellite radio design. When not teaching, he enjoys Tai Chi, practicing classical guitar or working hard on his farm in Culpeper County. |

Barbara Brown teaches PreIB Biology, and is faculty advisor to the FAAD/SADD and Earthforce clubs. She is also actively involved with Marshall’s PreIB Institute, a program that targets underserved gifted populations. Mrs. Brown received a B.A. in Biology with a Chemistry minor from Immaculata (PA) college, and completed graduate work in Cell and Molecular Biology at the University of Delaware. She received a Master's degree in Educational Psychology/Gifted Education from the University of Virginia and is currently in a Master of Life Science program at the University of Maryland, updating content knowledge in the rapidly changing field of molecular genetics. She is also a Virginia Master Naturalist in training. For the past ten years, Mrs. Brown has been teaching biology in FCPS. Prior to that, while her children were growing up, she developed and taught a preschool science program, wrote and edited science education materials, and was an active PTA volunteer in the Marshall Pyramid and at the county level. In her life before kids, she was a research associate at the University of California at Davis. Currently, she lives in Vienna with her husband, Tom, and their four labradoodles. Their four children are all Marshall HS grads. |

Amy Camire currently teaches Biology 1 and IB Environmental Systems. Amy is the sponsor of the Class of 2010 as well as the Gay-Straight Alliance and co-sponsor of Earth Force with Mrs. Brown. Ms. Camire graduated from Keene State College in 1998 with a BS in Biology and again in 2001 with a Master of Education. Camire is passionate about running, knitting and indoor rock climbing, as well as parmesan cheese. Seriously, she’ll put it on anything. She does not, however, have any luck keeping a healthy fish tank. Amy is in her fifth year at Marshall High School and loves it! |

Ms. Carser-Brown earned a BA in English from the University of Minnesota, and her M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction, with a specialization in ESOL, from George Mason University. She teaches ESOL 2, teamed World History and Geography 1, and teamed Biology 1. Ms. Carser-Brown is currently ESOL Department Chair. |

Andrea DeGaetano a special education teacher, teaches teamed biology and self contained biology. She coaches swim team and is one of the freshman class sponsors. She graduated from James Madison University where she was on the triathlon team. She is currently enrolled at George Mason University and is pursing a masters of Special Education. She loves spending time outside with her family, friends, and pets. |

Mark Fredenburg teaches IB Chemistry II HL. He is the Co-chair of the science department and an Assessment Coach for Marshall HS. Mr. Fredenburg got his BS in Chemistry at Mount Union College, his MS in Chemistry at the University of Rochester and his MS in Forensic Science at the George Washington University. While he has retired from coaching several sports at Marshall (including golf, wrestling and softball), he is a member of the announcing team for home football games. |

Ms. Hayhurst teaches IB Chemistry I & II SL and Chemistry 1. She came to Marshall this fall and is excited to be teaching at Marshall High School. She received her MS in Biology and Education from Southwest Missouri State University and her MS in Biology and Curriculum Development from Frostburg State University in Maryland. In her "FREE" time she enjoys playing with her horses, Miznan and Gidget. |

Ms Lue graduated from Royal Holloway, University of London, England in Medical Biochemistry. After which she worked in the field of science in Research and Design and progressed to management in the commercial sector. With her experience, she teaches Chemistry I and IB I in Chemistry in addition to volunteering her time as an evaluator for non-profit programs working with at-risk youths. |

Michael Montie teaches Marshall Academy’s Engineering Physics I and II and Engineering Systems I and II course sequences, and the Science Department’s Physics I course. He is the faculty advisor for the co-curricular Aerospace Engineering Club and Technology Students Association, and faculty sponsor for Marshall participation in four competitions: the Team America Rocketry Challenge, CanSat, BotBall Robotics, and Formula 1 dragsters. He graduated from the University of Maryland at College Park with a baccalaureate degree in Mathematics (Physics end Education minors) and a Master of Science degree in Nuclear Engineering. He is certified to teach Mathematics, Physics, and Technology Education. Prior to teaching in Fairfax County, Mr. Montie served as a military officer with combat experience, taught Differential Equations at the United States Military Academy (West Point), was a program manager at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), and was director of an office with oversight of special programs. In industry he served in product development and business development management roles for successful advanced technology programs. His daughter, a graduate of the University of Maryland at College Park, is a Certified Public Accountant in northern Virginia. His son, a graduate of Cornell University and the University of Virginia, is a practicing PHD engineering in Charlottesville. |

Mrs. Poirier is thrilled to be a new member of the Marshall Community. She teaches Geosystems and IB Environmental Systems SL. She has a BS degree in Geology and a MS degree in Secondary Education. Prior to teaching, Ms. Poirier spent 15 years working as an Environmental Scientist focusing on land management and hazardous waste site investigations. She has lived and worked in six U.S. states and one foreign country (Japan). In her free time she enjoys spending time with her husband and two sons as well as her two cats. |

Amy Snyder team teaches Chemistry 1 with Ms. Phuong, Ms. Mulaparti, and Ms. Davis. She is also a member of the Special Education Department. Ms. Snyder graduated from the State University of New York at Buffalo with a BS in Computer Science and later received a graduate degree in Secondary Education from Canisius College. When not tutoring students in the DC-metro area, she enjoys gardening, writing, and ice skating. |

He hails from Uniontown, Pennsylvania, the home of George C. Marshall in his formative years. Mr. Thomas has an AB in Zoology from West Virginia University and a MS in Biology from California University. |
