Transitional English 9, and Expanding and Developing Literacies


Pierce Bello teaches Pre-IB English 10 and Film Study, and he serves as a class co-sponsor of the class of 2012, a co-sponsor of the Bread Master's Club, and a squad leader for the freshmen transition program.  Mr. Bello earned a Master of Arts in English degree from George Mason University and a Master of Arts in Teaching degree from James Madison University.  Outside of Marshall’s hallways, Mr. Bello cheers on the Duke Blue Devils basketball team, supports his local 7-11 with a daily Big Brew coffee purchase, and attempts to see every film listed in 1001 Movies You Must See before You Die.


Kelly Bresnahan teaches English 9-12, World History 2, Foundations of VA/US History, Foundations of English, and Basic Skills.  She is also the head cheerleading coach for the Statesmen.  Miss Bresnahan graduated from Clemson University with a BA in Special Education.  When not at GCM, she can be found working out, reading a book at the beach, catching some serious air on her snowboard, or watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy with her adorable kitten, Carson.

Erin Kemper teaches English 9 and IB 1 English (11th grade). She received her BA in English and History from Georgetown University and her MFA in Poetry from George Mason University, where she is currently working towards her MA in Education. When not at GCM, Ms. Kemper enjoys meeting with her poetry writing group, spending time with her friends and family, and shamelessly watching TV and movies.



meltonMr. Melton teaches English 11 and is the school's IB co-coordinator. He is the former adviser of both the Columbian yearbook and Rank & File newspaper, and is an emeritus member of Virginia Association of Journalism Teachers and Advisers board of directors. He is endorsed by the Journalism Education Association as a Certified Journalism Educator. Mr. Melton received both a BA in English and psychology and a Master of Teaching degree in secondary English education from the University of Virginia.


nooneMartha Noone teaches English 10 with Mrs. Weiss and Mrs. Mohamed and IB 1 English (11th grade). She also sponsors the Knitting and Crocheting Club. She graduated from Bryn Mawr with a BA in English and a minor in Mathematics. In addition to her work at Marshall, Mrs. Noone enjoys time with friends and family, traveling to new places, and pursuing learning opportunities.


Born and raised outside of Chicago, Kate Weber received her Bachelor of Arts in English from Illinois Wesleyan University and her Masters in Education from The George Washington University. Ms. Weber has also taken additional coursework in multicultural education and diversity in the classroom, gifted education, and differentiating instruction for advanced learners, This year, Ms. Weber teaches pre-IB English 9 and English 10 and sponsors the National Honor Society.
