The following courses are recommended in preparation for the IB Diploma at Marshall High School. Pre-IB courses, representing more academically challenging work, fulfill the "GT" course offering for all subjects in which they are available, and are recommended for entrance into the IB program. Courses labeled "IB" carry a 0.5 weight on the GPA with the exception of Math's and Sciences, in which course weighting depends on the level and sequence of courses taken.

Grade 8:	Spanish 1, French 1 or Latin 1 Algebra 1 Other courses as suggested or required by the intermediate school (GT-level courses recommended where offered)

Grade 9:	Pre-IB English 9 Spanish 2, French 2, Latin 1 or Latin 2 Pre-IB World History & Geography Pre-IB Biology Pre-IB Integrated Math 2 (formerly Geometry GT) Elective (IB candidates are encouraged to begin an IB elective sequence as early as possible.) Health and PE 9*

Grade 10:	Pre-IB English 10 Spanish 3, French 3, Latin 2 or Latin 3 Pre-IB Government* Pre-IB Chemistry or Pre-IB Physics Pre-IB Integrated Math 3 (formerly Algebra II with Trig) Elective Health and PE 10*

Grade 11:	IB English I IB Spanish, French I, Latin 3 or IB Latin 1 IB History of the Americas IB Science I (Biology / Chemistry / Physics) IB Mathematics (Math Studies or Math Methods I) IB Elective (Third FCPS required science course, if necessary)

Grade 12:	IB English 12 IB Spanish, French II, IB Latin 1 or IB Latin 2 IB Topics in 20th Century World History IB Science II (Biology / Chemistry / Physics) IB Mathematics (Math Studies / Math Methods II / Higher Mathematics) IB Elective IB Theory of Knowledge

* This course fulfills Virginia State or Fairfax County graduation requirements. It is not available as an IB subject.
