Basic School Program
Mantua belongs to the national Basic School Network. Based on the philosophy of the late Dr. Ernest Boyer, former President of the Carnegie Foundation, the Basic School promotes school renewal in four areas: The School as Community (a Curriculum with Coherence, a Climate for Learning, and a Commitment to Character). Teachers spend summer planning days writing curriculum that makes connections for learners across disciplines and integrates literacy skills in language, mathematics and the arts. The Core Virtues of Honesty, Respect, Responsibility, Compassion, Perseverance, Giving, and Self Discipline are interwoven into the curriculum so that students become knowledgeable, responsible human beings.
