In 2002 a JMHS parent, Maria Coyle, developed a teacher recognition award called the Triple I Award. “Triple I” stands for “Innovate-Instruct-Impact” and the awards are designed to acknowledge the teachers that have been exceptional educators in the eyes of their peers, their students and the students’ parents. Nominations are being accepted now through May 24th for this year’s award.
The ten teachers who receive the best nominations will receive the honor of being a Triple I teacher and will join Madison’s elite Tie and Scarf club. One of these teachers will receive Triple I Teacher of the Year – last year that honor went to Kristine Schleibaum. The Triple I Teacher of the Year automatically becomes Madison’s nominee for the FCPS Teacher of the Year.

Ongoing Reminders
Modifications to SAP, effective January 30, 2013:
- Priority days for each core department (English, Social Studies, Science, World Languages, and Math) have already been established. Now, only students with a D or an F are permitted into the classroom on priority days.
SAP Priority Days:
Monday = Electives/Guidance/Foreign Lang/PE
Tuesday = English and ESOL
Wed = Math
Thursday = Science
Friday = Social Studies - Teachers are expected to develop intervention activities to provide to students on priority days. Teams can provide specific support for students in multiple classes on priority days.
- Students must be in a classroom or common area by the second bell at 8:59AM and are to remain stationary during SAP. No student will be permitted in the hallway without a signed pass and student ID. Passes are to be issued sparingly, and only to individual students, not groups. Students found in the hallway without a pass and ID will be assigned an administrative consequence.
- Students who do not attend a priority day SAP class will be assigned an administrative consequence.
- Students are permitted to engage in the following activities in a classroom:
- homework/classwork
- makeup work/retakes
- student group projects
- tutoring
- sustained silent reading
- The Library will be a quiet area where students can engage in the above activities.
These changes are to be implemented over the next six to eight weeks. Simply stated, the goal of SAP is to provide students and teachers with the additional time and support they need to meet the challenges and expectations of FCPS. The commitment of the enitire Madison community in realizing this goal is greatly appreciated.
Breakfast is changing at Madison. Starting January 30, breakfast items will be served only before school from 6:50-7:15 a.m. They will not be offered during SAP. This change is meant to encourage students to use SAP more effectively and to go to a classroom rather than the Cafeteria.
Please stop my the Main Office if you have lost any of the following items this school year to see if you are the lucky person of the day: coats, jackets, sweaters, lunch boxes, phones, and/or keys! Items are brought to The Main Office Lost and Found daily...Don't delay, stop by today!
