MEMORANDUM

August 15, 2012

Dear Parents, Guardians and Students:

Despite the recent heat wave I hope you have enjoyed your summer break with family and friends.  I have spent my summer dealing with some health issues and am very happy to report that I am back in the swing of things, and ready to begin another year of study, activities, friends, and experiences at the "Home of the Warhawks.”    We will learn together by challenging ourselves and each other.  We have “Great Expectations” for all our students, as well as the faculty and staff, and we are looking forward to another exciting year at Madison High School.

The first day of school is right around the corner.  What follows is Madison’s Back to School Information.  There is a wealth of information contained in the documents we have compiled for you.  We have done our best to make it convenient and user friendly and included a checklist below, broken into categories, to make the process a bit easier.   It is important that you review this information before school starts on September 4.  Clicking on the link in the left column will connect you with the information that is described in the right column.

Please take special note of the following:

o   Emergency care information must be updated electronically by August 30. (FCPS Info block)

o   Attendance Policy and Procedures have been revised for this year (JMHS Info block)

o   Free & Reduced Lunch applications must be submitted each school year.

o   The FCPS Student Rights and Responsibilities booklet, which outlines the FCPS rules of conduct, as well as the policies governing students riding buses, acceptable use of technology, and attendance, will be reviewed with students in school on Wednesday, September 5, 2012.  Parents must sign and return the parent signature page on Thursday, September 6, 2012.   The booklet is yours to keep for reference.

o   Cell phones may be used by students at certain times, and under certain circumstances, during the school day.  (JMHS Info block)

Please keep up-to-date with Madison HS by bookmarking Madison’s web site at www.fcps.edu/madisonhs.  We look forward to the start of another great year at JMHS.

                              Sincerely,
