Created in 1991, Video Fairfax is a competition for K-12 students enrolled in Fairfax County Public Schools. The program is designed to promote interest in video production, to encourage students to gain more experience in working with the medium and to explore the creative utilization of video.

Submitted videos are judged by industry professionals on the basis of content, production technique, audio, general effectiveness and graphics and effects. An awards event is held annually to present the winning videos, which are also shown on Red Apple Channel 21.
