The Department of Information Technology’s Multimedia Service Center has been in partnership with Luther Jackson Middle School’s Multimedia Production classes (Evelyn Holst instructor, Carol Robinson, Principal) since 2001. As part of this unique partnership with the Multimedia Production (M2P) students and faculty, the Multimedia Service Center has provided students with:

* news show set up, technical assistance, and training;

* technical assistance and training for new editing systems;

* special tours of Multimedia Service Center;

* “hands-on” opportunities to produce a program in Sprague Technology Center television studio, including a chance to learn about a variety of careers within the field of television production;

* opportunities to provide FCPS producers and directors with feedback on our FCPS Fairfax Network (hyperlink) national program offerings which can reach up to 26,000 schools across the nation;

* guidance on design and production of print tutorials of TMPC loan pool equipment. These guides are included in Loan pool equipment goes out to the schools.

* and a “TV Studio Production Workshop” held at Luther Jackson Middle School. Topics include lighting, vocabulary, and strategies for effective news show production.

In turn, Luther Jackson Middle School M2P students have:

* participated as hosts, audience or “talent” on some Fairfax Network programs. Examples of student participation include: America on the Move Part 2: Creating Stories; and Meet the Author: Lemony Snicket.

* spoken at FCPS School Board meetings and participated in “Spotlight on Learning” video segments in support of the Fairfax Network, multimedia productions, technology initiatives, and special FCPS initiatives;

* provided essential evaluation of programming from the student point-of-view. Our producers and directors look forward to receiving these well-thought-out and valuable evaluations that make an inpact on future FCPS programming.

* participated in focus groups concerning format and content for upcoming programs.

* allowed Multimedia Service Center personnel to have a better understanding of what interests students in middle schools.
