English

All students in grades 5 through 12 in Fairfax County Public Schools are required to read at least one book over the summer. There will be an assignment related to this reading requirement during the first week of school. FCPS has prepared a suggested reading list for rising 7th and 8th graders(printer-friendly, 14-page pdf), which includes both fiction and nonfiction books on a wide variety of subjects, interests, and reading levels.

Anyone who reads at least 10 books over the summer and fills out our Passport to Summer Reading will be invited to an ice cream party in September. We'll also be posting the completed Passports on a bulletin board in the Library, so make sure you include a picture of yourself. Mr. Hassett and Ms. McKnight will be passing out cards during June booktalks in English 7 classes. The LJMS Library has also prepared a short checklist including the books discussed in these talks. Listen to the announcements for details. If you lose your Passport or need another one, it may be downloaded and printed from here.
