All students in grades 5 through 12 in Fairfax County Public Schools are required to read at least one book over the summer. FCPS has prepared a suggested reading list for rising 7th and 8th graders(printer-friendly pdf), which includes both fiction and nonfiction books on a wide variety of subjects, interests, and reading levels.
Anyone who reads at least 10 books over the summer and fills out our Passport to Summer Reading will be invited to an ice cream party in September. We'll also be posting the completed Passports on a bulletin board in the Library, so make sure you include a picture of yourself. Mr. Hassett and Ms. Nielsen will be passing out cards during the last week of school. Listen to the announcements for details. If you lose your Passport or need another one, it may be downloaded and printed from here.
Everybody taking Algebra or Math 8 next year should download and print out the summer math packet. It includes a letter explaining what is required.

Summer reading assignments will be graded as part of first quarter. For Pre-AP students, the assignment is due by the end of the first week of school, Friday, September 11. For general English 9 students, the assignment should be completed no later than Friday, September 25, but students are encouraged to submit the assignment before that date.
If you will be attending a school other than Luther Jackson, Falls Church, or Oakton next year, please be sure to contact that school for specific assignments.
