Issue - How to become a successful anchor on television

Tiptoid -

Sarah and I were scheduled to anchor on our school's weekly creative television show. I was confident, because Sarah, who had more experience as an anchor, taught me some ways to be both pleasant and dynamic when presenting on camera.

Our anchoring performance was very well received. We felt proud and successful. So now I want to share some of my success tips with you, so that you can experience pride and success when you anchor on television.

•  Voice Expression - Speak with clarity and confidence. Enunciate each word. Modulate your voice. Emphasize words in ways that reflect their meaning (e.g. the word "happy" should be spoken with an upbeat and bright tone).

•  Physical Expression - Sit up straight and maintain a comfortable but formal posture. Gesture with your hands; move your head naturally at appropriate times (e.g. when agreeing with something your co-anchor has just said). Remember to SMILE! Look like you are enjoying yourself.

•  Eye contact - Maintain eye contact with the camera. If you need to refer to a script, do so only occasionally, and make eye direction changes naturally. Look into the camera lens comfortably, as if the camera is your friend. This approach makes a very professional and pleasing statement.

•  Cooperation with co-anchor - Work with your co-anchor cooperatively. Interact often by looking at your co-anchor when he/she is talking. Never interrupt.

•  Rehearse your lines and personal presentation style - You need to practice practice practice your lines before the show, but you should practice other things as well - such as, your smile. If you have a cute little grin, use it moderately, but frequently enough for your audience to recognize that that trait is part of your charming personal presentation style. Be natural, warm, and friendly, but clearly demonstrate with your performance attitude that you take your role seriously. That is the mark of a professional anchor.

These tips helped to make me a successful anchor. They can work for you, too.
