Worried about that next test? Knowing that a test is coming can cause anxiety unless you are prepared. With the right guidance and preparation, a test can actually be enjoyable.

If you set the goal of achieving an "A+" on a test and prepare for it with good time management, you will feel a great sense of accomplishment. Focusing on your goal will reduce anxiety and worry. Getting into the habit of setting goals for tests now can help you achieve greater goals in the future.

There are many things you can do to prepare for a test. Here are some -

1. Sit in the front of the class.

2. Listen to the teacher and class discussions.

3. Take simple notes in class to study at home.

4. Ask questions.

5. Do all assignments to the best of your ability.

6. Remember to correct wrong answers on homework and quizzes.

7. Figure out the reason why the answer is correct.

8. When it comes to homework, teach it to someone: your dog, your parent or even a picture of a movie star, because we have to know it to teach it to someone else!

Remember, if we prepare for our tests now, then it can reduce our anxiety on the day of the test.

Time management is another key to getting that "A+".

1. Keep your assignment notebook (planner) up to date.

2. Mark assignments, quizzes, and tests on a calendar at home that is checked daily. Some will say that the refrigerator or a mirror is a great location for this type of calendar.

3. Let your parent(s) be a part of the process so they can schedule family events around your time to study.

4. Take breaks between study sessions to increase your learning potential.

5. Read, think, and reread again.

6. Remember the SQ3R method of study. It is S urvey, Q uestion, R ead, R ecite, and R eview. (Developed by Thompson 1970).

Like almost everything else in the world, taking a test is a process that takes time. This leaves procrastination out of the question. So when the teacher tells you in advance that there's going to be a test, study the material. Procrastination can lead to worry and concern which harms you more than it can ever help you! Studying all night when you should be sleeping does not work to your advantage either. If we manage our time wisely, we will have time to sleep soundly, be relaxed, and be ready to achieve our goal.

Think about the joy, pride, and excitement you will feel when you see an “A+” at the top of your paper when it is returned. What a sense of accomplishment you will feel in reaching your goal. Instead of remediation classes, you'll have more time for recreational activities after school.

After getting that “A+” take some time to reflect about the time spent to achieve your success and what you will do in the future to achieve even higher goals. Remember the importance of that "A+" and how it affects your overall class grade.

They say that nothing builds success like success.
