Last week, I had got a new Polaroid camera as a gift from my aunt. I thought the camera was pretty neat, so I started to play around with it. It's a cool camera!

I usually like turning the camera vertically when I am taking pictures of myself. But when I started taking self portraits, I got to thinking how I could take better portrait pictures of other people. Here's what I learned.

•  First get permission to take someone's portrait pictures. See Tech Tip “Portrait Photography – Getting Permission.”

•  Aim the camera to where you want to take the picture. A portrait - zoom shot lets you see nothing but the face. A zoom lets you focus on a certain part of the face.

•  Take a series of pictures. You can then choose the best one.

•  Use different picture-taking techniques when taking pictures. See our Multimedia Tutorials “Videography – Scene Shooting 1” and “Videography – Scene Shooting 2.” These tutorial tips work for still photography as well as video.

•  Make sure the camera is vertical if you want to take a classic portrait shot.

My aunt liked my pictures so much, she's asked me to take a portrait photo of her in celebration of her birthday. Wow!
