Did you know that Google has a variety of databases with lots of options available for the active researcher? These databases are easily accessible, but do you know where they are located on Google's website? Well, take a look!

Here is a list of Google databases and a few search tips I have learned from personal experience.

IMAGES

Google has one of the largest images databases - currently over 1.3 billion. This database is one of my favorites. It's a great source when you need images for a project. I use it all the time.

NEWS

Over 4,500 news organizations feed their publications to this site, including news in other languages. The news items are made available for 30 days. I think this database is very useful whenever I have to do research for assignments, like Science in the news.

LOCAL (AND MAPS)

This database is loaded with local information, dragable images, satellite shots, yellow pages, driving directions, and address and topic search boxes.

Whenever I need to find a specific location, or figure out the distance from one place to another, I go to Google's maps link. I also help my parents find businesses and services information in our neighborhood, which makes me look very resourceful!

VIDEO

Google's video database contains projects from local broadcasts and TV, as well as videos submitted by regular people like you and me. Close captioning is also available.

Next to http://www.youtube.com/, Google is my favorite website to look for videos. I hope you are pleased that now you know about Google's database resources.
