M2P Song and Dance (Poetry) Slam Competition

This multi-phased performance project brought together the various aspects of the Multimedia Productions program in a fun yet challenging entertainment and promotional format.

In groups and numbers of their choice, students were required to establish themselves as an M2P song and dance company. Their tasks included defining the core concepts, big picture goals, and Grade 7 and 8 program content elements which stood out for them as representative and memorable from their 2 year M2P experience at Jackson Middle School. They took this information and wrote a multi-stanza song with accompanying choreography. The resulting "M2P Song and Dance" projects were extensively rehearsed, and then performed for their peers.

The performance format was a Poetry Slam Competition. Reminiscent of the 1960's Beatnik era, the Poetry Slam is adjudicated by five peer judges for each performance. Scores are tallied and summary assessment comments (positives and suggestions) were highlighted by a designated head judge. The audience participation included applause, cheering, (polite) booing, finger snapping, and foot stomping.

The video compilation of segments from each performance will be used as an M2P program promotional tool for LJMS rising Grade 7 students and parents.
