About London Towne’s physical education program:

The London Towne physical education program is always challenging, exciting, and fun! There are two physical education teachers at London Towne, Mr. Niel and Mr. Birge. Students are taught a wide variety of age-appropriate skills and activities which are derived from the county curriculum. As part of this curriculum, students will spend approximately 50% of each class period working on fitness, and 50% working on physical skill development. It is the goal of the London Towne physical education program to educate, challenge, and encourage all children in the knowledge, skills, and attitudes they need for a healthy and fit life.

What you can expect to see during a physical education class:

Each day the students perform a number of warm-up exercises, then jog for 3-5 minutes (depending on grade level) to increase their cardiovascular fitness. Kindergarten, first and second grade jog for 3 minutes each time they come to physical education, and third through sixth grade jog for 4-5 minutes. The entire class gets to jog together, which makes for a non-competitive environment where the students can push themselves to do their best while at the same time encouraging each other. Upon completion of the warm-up and jog, students will begin skill development, which can include station work, individual practice, as well as group activities and games.

What your student needs for physical education class:

Mr. Niel and Mr. Birge ask that parents and guardians make sure children come prepared for physical education. On days your child has physical education, he or she must wear appropriate attire (shorts, jeans, t-shirts, sweatshirts, tennis shoes, etc). Please no dresses, sandals and/or boots, as safety is our number one priority. We are extremely active in physical education, and we want every one to be safe while they are exercising and having fun!!
