There are two full time elementary school guidance counselors at London Towne, Ms. Helen Urban and Mrs. Lisa Railan. The elementary school counseling and guidance program is a part of the total school program and complements learning in the classroom. It is child-centered, preventive, and developmental.

The program encourages students' social, emotional, and personal growth at each stage of their development. The purpose of counseling with students, parents, and teachers is to help students maximize their potential. Counseling is conducted with students individually and in small groups when requested and determined appropriate. It is short-term, voluntary, and confidential. Parental permission is obtained prior to any extended individual or group counseling. The counselors also conduct guidance lessons on a regular basis in the classroom. Some of the topics that are discussed include: social skills, friendship skills, goal setting, responsibilities, self-control (behavior and feelings), peer pressure, peer relations, decision making/problem-solving, conflict resolution, anger management, self-esteem/concept, study skills and awareness of careers.

There are also many programs that the counselors run. They include:

* Student Host * Bringing Up Grades (B.U.G.) * Character Trait Skills Program (Respect) * School-wide Problem Solving Strategies * Peer Mediation * Class Meetings

One of the major roles of the counselors is to help students who are facing particular difficulties. Family disruptions such as illness, death, or divorce may affect children at school. Our other major function is to be of help to parents.
