Welcome to Second Grade 
2009-2010
Dear Families,
Welcome to second grade! In second grade your child will gain more independence and begin to take on more responsibilities. They will actively pursue a variety of learning experiences that require your support and encouragement at home.
In language arts your child will:
- Use a variety of strategies to aid comprehension, decoding, and fluency while improving independent reading.
- Use the writing process to write for different purposes using a variety of forms.
In math your child will acquire a better understanding of:
- Addition and Subtraction (1-digit and 2-digit addition)
- Time
- Money
- Fractions
- Place Value
Some units of study in science and social studies are:
- Animals and Environments
- Magnets and Matter
- Famous Americans
- Native Americans
Please click on the link at the top of the page to access the 2nd grade supply list. Supplies should be sent to school on the first day, but additional supplies may be requested by individual teachers.
