When your child has mastered alphabet recognition, he or she may be ready to move and learn words. We have listed some sight words for your child to try. These are words that will be a big part of the first readers your child will use. To practice, print out a group of words and have your child practice chanting the letters, then writing and saying the words. Then cut the letter cards apart and let your child build the words by placing the cards together in order. Finish by storing the cards in an envelope and write the words they spell on the front, so that you can use them for practice at a later time.
Parenting tip: If your child is unhappy with this task, please stop. Learning to read is a hard job, and your child will learn to read better when he or she is enjoying the experience.
