Dear Fifth Grade Parents,
We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and to give you an idea of what your child will be learning in fifth grade.
The fifth grade class will be taking Standards of Learning tests in Writing, Reading, Math, and Science in the spring. Our goal is to teach your child the state and county standards using best teaching practices and purposeful teacher collaboration.
This year’s curriculum is both exciting and challenging. Your child will be learning how to further refine their Writing across many genres. In Reading, we will focus on several strategies that can be used to further comprehension and we will help your child continue to take the initiative in using these strategies. In Math, we will expand upon the fourth grade curriculum while looking at number computation, algebra, geometry, and several other math areas. In Science, we will explore how scientific investigation can be used to help us learn about living things, the oceans, the world, and beyond. In Social Studies, we will study several ancient cultures and explore how those cultures have affected our lives today.
We hope that you will be an active participant in your child’s learning by encouraging him/her to do his/her best, and ask what is being learned each day.
