Preschool and Autism Programs

The Preschool Program at Little Run offers a child-centered approach to learning for children, ages 2-5, with developmental delays, or who qualify for income-based FECEP (Family and Early Childhood Education Program). Children with developmental delays are found eligible for the program following a free developmental screening. Throughout the preschool experience, children receive the guidance and involvement of teachers, assistants, and therapists with extensive training in child development. We have a play-based approach to learning which allows children to explore the world around them in a safe and fun place.

To increase the opportunity for language and social interaction, our preschool has opened its preschool program to typically developing children within the Little Run community who can be positive role models. Ask about the Preschool Community Integration Program for more information and the application process.

FLES (Foreign Language in the Elementary School)

Little Run develops students' Spanish language proficiency in Grades 1 - 4 by providing language instruction that supports the concepts taught in the subject areas at the respective grade level. Generally, programs have 30 minutes of instruction two to three times per week. The FLES model is based on the research that shows that students are not only able to learn but are also highly engaged in learning content through the target language. In addition, the culture of the target language is integrated into instruction.

Little Run students use a variety of technology daily.. Each classroom has at least four computers, a color printer and a Smartboard! Two mobile carts of 16 laptops can be checked out to classes as well. The computer lab houses 30 computers so entire classes can complete technology lessons on topics that integrate with academic studies in the classrooms. Mrs. Peterson, our technology specialist, is a resource to teachers and students as they explore the ever-emerging possibilities technology provides.
