From the Principal's Desk...
Hello Friends,
I am exceedingly pleased to report that your little ones are continuing to learn a great deal and are having a great time doing so! By the way, so am I. This past week I: have played in a rice box with the preschoolers (great fun, try it), learned about solid geometric shapes and equidistant points with spheres, had a stimulating discussion about civil war battle strategies with the 6th graders (they drew startling analogies to present-world conflicts), learned some great strategies (for next year's tax season) for working with fractions from the 4th graders, received some fabulous language arts tips from the 5th graders who always keep me smiling, had a wonderful opportunity to do a Read Aloud ac-tivity with the 2nd graders (I told the story of MLK as if I were actually MLK). Try answering this question from a 2nd grader: "If you are dead, how can you be here telling us about your life?" I continue to be amazed by the K/1 stu-dents (they let me help color their Monarch Butterflies Spring Migration post-er). The next time you are in the building please note the wonderful different colors in the grass that I colored that is complete with spiders. Don't laugh, coloring is VERY therapeutic at 8:45 am! I observed and listened to an out-standing Diorama Presentation by our 2nd grade scientists, and lastly I learned about perspective in art class. Are we not continuing to learn at Lemon Road!!! In between all this, we tended and wrote about the gardens, had Freaky Friday, celebrated birthdays, had the volunteer luncheon, and passed out homemade cupcakes! I love this school!!!
Our youngsters are enthusiastically doing a tremendous job of periodically re-viewing for their 5/4-6/1 upcoming-SOL's. Pertinent information regarding SOL administration can be found on our Blackboard sights.
Please do me a favor and drive especially carefully in the morning and the af-ternoon when you are on campus. We have added adult Safety Guards to add an additional layer of perimeter safety. I thank you in advance for your cooper-ation.
We welcome our in-coming Freedom Hill ES families with enthusiasm and open arms. Lemon Road is a great school with a caring community and a sup-portive PTA. As you transition from one wonderful school to another great school, we look forward to welcoming you personally.
Douglas Tyson, Acting Principal
