WHAT'S NEW
From the beginning of the school year in September
to the end of the second grading period, the students at Lees Corner have
participated in some great activities. Their first unit of the year
was Soccer. Grades 3 to 6 spent 2 days learning skills and then played
games for two weeks. They played indoors and outdoors and learned
the rules for both. While the older kids were playing soccer, the
1st and 2nd graders were playing games like "Mice Chasers" and "Doomed
Domes". After Soccer, grades 3 to 6 participated in the Virginia
Wellness Test, which is a fitness test. At the end of November, all
students were involved with the Parachute unit. After the Parachute,
students went right into the Basketball Unit. Again all classes were
involved. The students learned the skills of ball handling, dribbling,
passing, and shooting. For 3rd to 6th grade these skills culminated
into two weeks of quarter court basketball games. While this was
happening, the 1st and 2nd graders were getting their Locomotor License's.
This lesson involved matching locomotor movements such as walking, jogging,
hopping, sliding, and leaping with road signs. At the end of the
lesson each student went through the Driver's course using their locomotor
movements properly so that they wouldn't get their licenses revoked.
From January to the End of the 2nd grading period the students bowled in
the gym for 3 weeks. The unit consisted of 14 lanes, 14 P.E. bowling
balls, 14 deck rings, 14 chairs, and 140 pins. The 5th and 6th graders
started to learn how to score, while the rest of the classes just stuck
to the basic rules of bowling. Don't forget to scroll down and look
through the pictures of some of this years activities.
