Office of School Psychology Services Newsletter: School Refusal

As the first quarter ends, most students have settled into the school routine of friends, teachers, and classes, and look forward to learning new things. However, for a number of youth, attending school can create high levels of anxiety and they may begin to avoid school or refuse to attend. This newsletter will explore what is termed “school refusal” and offer some strategies for parents. You can find the newsletter by clicking here. Spanish version found here. You are welcome to contact Lee High School’s school psychologist, Maria Genova, at 703 924 8346, with questions or to discuss supports available for your child.

Lee High School has a FAFSA completion workshop already scheduled through College Access Fairfax on February 2, 2016 from 5:00 pm – 7:30 pm in the Lee Library. There are also posters outside of the Career Center of other school locations hosting similar workshops.

Federal Impact Aid forms will be sent home through Lancer Time in November. Please be on the lookout for these forms, fill them out, sign and return them to school. We need to have completed forms for each family. Even if you do not think you qualify, please help the county with this huge endeavor. As we face more budget issues next year, the information gathered with survey can be critical to providing funding to the county.
