The Ecozine Online Magazine was designed as a multi-displinary assignment that would enhance the student's knowledge of the environment and how it can relate to their subject. Read on to find more on the Lee High School Ecozine Online Magazine as well as see the videos produced by the students.
Using the subject of "environment" as an overarching theme, the object was for Mrs. O'Shaughnessy's CG 1 (Computer Graphics 1) students to design a visually expressive and functional, collaborative online magazine (Ecozine) of 26-pages, with multiple department features, their own original ads marketed to high school students, and their own written article about the subject of "environment." Mrs. O'Shaughnessy's Art I students created the printmaking artwork used on the Ecozine covers, and wrote their own "Environmental Artist" articles which were featured in the magazine.
The CG 1 Students began by researching historical popular magazines, as they visually depict controversial issues, followed by research of current popular magazines focusing on the "environment" as a main topic. They studied masthead development, typography selection, distinctive headings, the development of photos as graphics, electronic file management, proofs, deadlines, and attention to grammar and spelling. Software programs used included InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat. Electronic files from other departments were retrieved using Blackboard.
The videos and assignments below were created by the CG1 students with the help of French, Spanish, and Social Studies classes.
