The ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) program has three major goals; to facilitate the rapid acquisition of English and literacy skills in order to participate fully in the general education program, to provide instruction which satisfies the cultural as well as linguistic needs of students; and to promote the contributions of different cultures to our society.
We offer three levels of instruction. ESOL I is for students to acquire basic communication and school skills. The course helps students to adjust to a new culture as they study about American holidays, customs, history, and geography. ESOL 2 is for students who continue to develop proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing Using an integrated approach to language study, students increase their vocabulary and understanding of the structure of English. ESOL 3 is the advanced level where students read a variety of literature and relate life situations to literary themes. Students continue to develop their writing skills and continue to study the structure of the English language through a variety of writing assignments. Students refine their listening and speaking skills through class discussions and oral presentations.
