Auto Tech I students learn the names and functions of the automotive system. Shop work provides live hands-on experience to vehicle maintenance and repair. Auto Tech II students continue their studies and shop work to prepare for a career as an Automotive Technician. Students completing the Auto Tech II with a "B" or better average may earn two to nineteen credits at NOVA (Northern Virginia Community College) through sucessful completion of an exam administered by the college.
Cosmetology students are introduced to the basic manipulative skills and theory associated with the beauty industry. After completing state qualifications, students apply for the board exam, pass the exam and enter gainful employment directly after graduation from high school.
The design and technology program offers a rare opportunity for every student to learn about modern technology industries. Step-by-step, they solve problems with new solutions and develop new products wanted by our consumer-driven society. Students enter the world of manufacturing, communications, transportation, and production systems and experience the steps from planning to constructing and testing their creation.
A series of four courses are available to the student wanting to learn technical drawing: Basic Technical Drawing, Engineering Drawing, Architectural Drawing and Advanced Drawing. Approximately 90 percent of the drawing is done using computer aided drafting (CAD). Students work at their own computer work station with an emphasis on problem solving and computer aided drawing.
The Family and Consumer Sciences program focuses on the development of management skills needed throughout the life span. Developing knowledge and skills to support healthy, functioning individuals in the family and work place, developing critical thinking skills, and enhancing self-esteem are major goals. Life Planning, Gourmet Foods, International Hospitality, Child Development and Parenting, Fitness and Foods, Intro to Fashion and Interior Design and Early Childhood Careers are the courses offered.
