** During the month of June we have a number of special activities planned for 8th graders and 7th graders that are aimed at ending the year on a positive note. On June 8th there is a Lanier vs. Stone basketball event and on June 15th there will be end of the year activities for both grade levels. Starting Monday, May 21st students will not be allowed to participate if a student receives a disciplinary consequence of at least one full day in Alternative Instructional Arrangement. AIA or out of school suspension or a student has an outstanding obligation or debt with the library or finance office. I will be explaining this expectation to students during the morning and afternoon announcements
*The Lanier Strings students will be performing in the Lanier Auditorium on Tuesday, May 22 at 7 pm with the Providence Elementary School Strings students. This concert is a great way to see and hear music played by students at the young beginning level to the very advanced. Students have been preparing their music and working very hard for this performance. The concert is open to the public and should last approximately 2 hours.
*Notice from FCPS. Vendor Targeting Parents, Students Cite False Claims. The North Springfield ES administration this week learned that door-to-door solicitors are in the area representing a company called BrainstormUSA selling educational software products supposedly designed to help students with their studies. A parent notified the school that a salesperson came to his home and indicated that North Springfield ES had provided the salesperson the name of the parent’s child and also claimed that the company was working with the school to provide this tutoring service. Both of those claims are false. FCPS has no relationship with the company, does not endorse their products, and did not provide names or addresses of any students. The principal contacted a supervisor with the company who offered to contact his sales rep to ensure that he no longer misrepresents the existence of any relationship between the company and the school or FCPS.
*The Fairfax High School Activities Fair will be at Lanier MS on June 7th, from 3 to 4:40pm. The fair gives rising 9th graders an opportunity to meet with sports teams, coaches and players as well as club sponsors and members. Students may sign up for any activity they are interested in joining next school year. Flyers detailing events happening over the summer and throughout the next school year will also be available.
