Ms. Dubray - Introductory Art students learned about “Identity” by creating a piece of wearable art. As students created their piece they learned how identity can be formed by items we wear every day. In order to successfully put their piece together they collaborated to create the base of their hat from newspaper and masking tape, and then elaborated on their artwork by adding tissue paper and paper mache’. Ms. Calderon-Teran - Multi-cultural The students were tallying the results of a survey in which most of the Lanier population participated. The idea was to find out how many countries are represented at Lanier and approximately how many people represent each country. We bought a big map to complete the project, which we hope to finalize it soon.

Lanier Students Sing The National Anthem at the GMU v Penn St. Men's Volleyball GameIt was a record-breaking, sell-out crowd of 1,600 at the new George Mason RAC Center. It was an awesome experience for the singers. The crowd, with the music being played was almost deafeningly loud in the gym. Volleyballs were slamming all around us as the players warmed up. Pride Time Singers lined up on the court and soon after, we were announced. Immediate sudden silence fell over the gym. I gave them their beginning note on the pitch pipe. They sang it really well --- a cappella, four parts, all words perfectly correct! The crowd remained silent until they finished the song and then the crowd broke out with those amazingly loud cheers of thanks! Very cool! (4/1/11) |

| Superheroes - Introductory Art students were given the challenge of transforming themselves into a super hero or super villain.
Each student turned themselves into a believable action figure by learning and using proportion, movement, and detail. Once their own figure was finalized, students were asked to form groups and redraw one of their group members' figures LIFE SIZE! Students were able to use the skills they previously learned and collaboratively build something bigger than any one of them could build by themselves. |
