Uniforms
Students are expected to dress daily in their Lanier Physical Education uniform. The price of the uniform is $10.00 or $11.00 ($3.50 / shirt - $6.50/ cotton shorts & $7.50 / mesh shorts). Uniforms are sold during the first week of school as well as throughout the year. We ask that uniforms be brought home each Friday for laundering. Students are not permitted to share their uniforms for health reasons. In an effort to maintain appropriate class dress, students will be required to replace uniforms which are torn, autographed, or have inappropriate language written on them.
Lockers
Students are required to provide their own combination lock (no key locks) to use on their PE locker. Changing lockers is not permitted unless authorized by a teacher. It is the student's responsibility to lock all their belongings in their assigned locker before, during and after class.
Towel Service
Showers are available and recommended, but not required. Clean towels will be available for student use at the end of each class period upon request. The price for towel service is $11.00.
Personal Responsibility - the students' ability to participate in a cooperative manner, problem-solve, demonstrate sportsmanship, and demonstrate personal preparation. Included in personal responsibility is the expectation to be on time to class and squads, dress out properly, and remain actively involved in class for the entire period.
Skills and Knowledge - the students' ability to complete projects, demonstrate skill acquisition, show a written understanding and practical application of rules, interpret and analyze health information in order to help promote a healthy lifestyle.
Fitness Concepts - the students' ability to complete fitness activities, through fitness assessment and quarterly fitness charts.
Evaluation and Grading
Students will participate in three activity units per quarter. Quarterly grades will be issued based on the Fairfax County grading scale. Their grade will be determined based on the following criteria:
8th grade:
50% Performance/Participation
10% Activity Knowledge
25% Health
15% Activity skill
7th grade:
50% Performance/Participation
25% Activity Knowledge

Medical Issues
If a student is unable to participate in PE activities on any given day, up to three consecutive days, the student is REQUIRED to bring a note from their parent / guardian with a brief explanation for non-participation. Fairfax County School regulation REQUIRES a doctor's note to excuse a student from participation if they are out of PE activity for longer than three days. If possible, the doctor's note should include a return to participate date.
