ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE
Course #: 427004
Grades: 11, 12
Credit: one/weighted +.5
Prerequisite: Biology 1 and Chemistry 1
The purpose of this course is to prepare students to take the Advanced Placement examination, for which college credit and/or placement may be given if a qualifying score is achieved. The AP Environmental Science course is designed to be the equivalent of a one-semester, introductory college course in environmental science and is designed to stress scientific principles and analysis. The course includes a laboratory component. Students examine how science is a process, how energy conversions underlie all ecological processes and how the Earth is one interconnected system. Students will explore how humans alter the natural system and the cultural and social context of environmental problems. All students are required to take the Advanced Placement exam. It can be used as the fourth science credit for an advanced studies diploma, if the student has already taken three science courses from three different disciplines.

BIOLOGY
Course #: 437004
Grades: 11, 12
Credit: 1 (weighted +.5)
Prerequisite: Biology 1 and Chemistry 1
The purpose of this course is to prepare students to take the Advanced Placement Biology exam for which college credit and/or placement may be granted by an approving institution if a qualifying score is achieved. Advanced Placement Biology is a second-level biology course that utilizes laboratory research activities to acquaint students with the means by which biological information is collected and interpreted. The course is designed for students who have completed the core science curriculum and are now prepared to pursue more advanced and specialized studies. If dissections are a part of the laboratory experience, alternatives are available. All students are required to take the Advanced Placement exam. It can be used as the fourth science credit for an advanced studies diploma, if the student has already taken three science courses from three different disciplines.

CHEMISTRY
Course #: 447004
Grades: 11, 12
Credit: 1 (weighted +.5)
Prerequisite: Chemistry 1
Corequisite: Recommended Physics or Precalculus
The purpose of this course is to prepare students to take the Advanced Placement examination, for which college credit and/or placement may be given if a qualifying score is achieved. Advanced Placement Chemistry is a second-level, laboratory-centered course that provides an opportunity for students to undertake a more comprehensive investigation of some aspects of chemistry than is normally possible in the first-year chemistry course. It is designed for students who have completed a core science curriculum and are now ready to pursue more advanced and specialized studies. All students are required to take the Advanced Placement exam. It can be used as the fourth science credit for an advanced studies diploma, if the student has already taken three science courses from three different disciplines.

What Do Students Say?
AP Chemistry is an exciting course that will have you pulling all-nighters two times per quarter. The labs are challenging but very comprehensive and therefore preparing you for the AP exam extremely well. Although a very difficult course, (by very I mean like “dang son, that was hard”) it was the class I had the most fun failing. =)-Issac Kwon
AP Chemistry was by far my favorite class. People talk about how hard it is but it’s really not that bad. You have to do a decent amount of work but if you go to class its mostly fun and games and tie dying of shirts. Take AP Chemistry it’s awesome.-Philip Snell
In the summer before my junior year, I was starting to regret choosing to take AP Chemistry because of all the things I heard about it. People said it was hard, no fun, too much work, and many other negative things. But my experience was exactly the opposite. The class was by far one of the most enjoyable and educational courses I took in high school, although also definitely one of the most challenging. Not only was the class fun, but I have decided to go into a field of study that involves chemistry in college; and I feel that AP Chemistry definitely attributed to it.-Hwan Kim
AP Chemistry is one of the more challenging classes based on the complexity of the material. The workload isn’t really huge, per say, but the questions and problems will definitely get you thinking. If you feel under-challenged in school, which many do, and you just can’t wait to get to college, I definitely recommend AP chemistry.-Erik Robbins

PHYSICS C
Course #: 457004
Grades: 11, 12
Credit: one/weighted +.5
Prerequisite: Physics 1
Corequisite: Calculus AB or Calculus BC
Advanced Placement Physics C: Mechanics is a second year physics course which re-examines topics in Newtonian mechanics—Kinematics; Forces and Motion; Gravitation and Planetary Motion; Work, Energy, and Power; Impulse, Momentum, and Center of Mass; and Simple Harmonic Motion. The purpose of this course is to prepare students to take the Advanced Placement Physics C: Mechanics examination (a requirement for all enrolled students), for which college credit and/or placement may be given if a qualifying score is achieved. Much more than simply a review of first-year learning, these topics are treated with greater depth and mathematical sophistication. Students will deepen their understanding of interrelated ideas as they refine their problem solving skills, relying on basic differential and integral Calculus techniques throughout the course. (Concurrent enrollment in Calculus is required.) AP Physics C: Mechanics is designed for students who have completed a core science curriculum and are now ready to pursue more advanced and specialized studies. The curriculum is designed to provide a solid foundation in physics for students who wish to pursue physical science or engineering degrees. AP Physics C: Mechanics may be used as the fourth science credit for an advanced studies diploma if the student has already taken three science courses from three different disciplines.
