How Does Our Garden Grow?

garden3 garden2 garden1 garden4

Miss Groeneweg's Multiage class celebrated spring by harvesting the lettuce plants from Lane's Outdoor Classroom garden that they had planted earlier in the year. The students also got to enjoy a salad made with the fruits of their labor, and they even shared their bounty with other staff members and students!

Poetry Cafe Rhymes & Rocks!

poetrycafe2 poetrycafe1 poetrycafe3 poetrycafe4 poetrycafe5 poetrycafe6

National Poetry Month celebrations culminated in a rhyme-reading, finger-snapping good time on April 28 & 29, when the Lane Library was magically transformed into the Poetry Cafe. Students, teachers, and even some parents enjoyed the laid-back atmosphere while the sounds of poems (some written by Lane students themselves) rang through the air. It was a blast, man! Click here to see more groovy photos of the cool time had by all.

Check out Mrs. Barrett and Mrs. Grate reading a poem duet about ... reading!

Tall Tales & Unbelievable Truths!

storyteller1 storyteller2 storyteller3 storyteller4

On April 16, as part of Lane's National Library Week celebration, students in all grade levels got to enjoy stories spun by expert storyteller Gary Lloyd. Mr. Lloyd joined us for the entire day to share “Tall Tales from America’s Trails” and “Amazing Escapes: True or False?” and he had everyone on the edge of their seats! Selected older students got to enjoy a “Chat and Chew” with Mr. Lloyd, who spent his lunch break talking with his young future counterparts about books, movies, and writing.

Mary Todd Lincoln visited Lane's 2nd grade classes on March 6 to entertain them with stories about her famous husband. She was very impressed with how much our students already knew about the 16th president and his wife.

Valentines Meet Math!

We celebrated 100 days of school with a special Valentine theme. Classes were invited to express their love for math by creating a "100 Heart." Imaginations--and calculations--ran wild! To see a few of our creations, click on the heart below.

PTA Restaurant Night at
Silver Diner
October 29, 2008

Thanks to all the Lane families and friends that joined their fellow Lions for dinner at Silver Diner on Wednesday, October 29. We'd especially like to thank all the 5th and 6th graders who worked so hard seating guests, running food, and clearing tables. You did a great job!

And a BIG thank you to Silver Diner for letting us hold our event at the restaurant and especially for the donation they made to our PTA.

6th Grade Living Wax Museum

On Monday, October 27, 6th grade got more than a hands-on education about important historical figures. They put their whole bodies into learning as part of Lane's first-ever “Living Wax Museum.”

Each student selected a famous person to be part of the museum and, after several weeks of research, created an informative display about their person to accompany the “living” part of the exhibit –the students themselves dressed as the historical figures.

Many parents and students enjoyed touring this unique exhibition, and the 6th graders themselves had a great time presenting their historical alter egos. Everyone learned a lot!
