Clipping Box Tops Brings Rewards!

boxtopsdalton
Classes compete for trophies and other awards - like a visit from the principal to read a special book - in the PTA’s ongoing Box Tops and Labels for Education drive. Two winners this fall were Mrs. Dalton’s class (left) and Mrs. Maguire’s class (right).

A Clean Sweep!

And rake ... and shovel ... Members of the Lane PTA and the community used those tools and many more on Saturday, October 31, when they spent several hours cleaning up, raking up, and sprucing up our school grounds. Lane Lions of all ages came out to enjoy the cool (if a bit damp) air and share the workload. Thanks to all who participated. The grounds look great! Morning Meetings Start Each Day Off Right!

Has your child come home talking about that day’s Morning Meeting? Wonder what they’re talking about? Take a look below and see!

Each day, every class begins with a Morning Meeting, where the teacher and students share a greeting, an activity, an interactive message, and a sharing component for the day. These meetings build community and foster communication and set the tone for a positive day!

Sharing the days news is an important part
of the Morning Meeting.
Handshakes, eye contact, and social cues are taught through greetings.
Ms. Gump uses her interactive SmartBoard for her Morning Message. Every student in her 2nd grade class gets to answer the days question on the board. The questions are often tied to learning that is happening in the room.

Students get to stand up and move around
during explicitly taught activities.
Morning Meetings in Mrs. Schadle’s Kindergarten class bring everyone to the carpet to get the day started off right!
The best things about Morning Meetings are
the laughter and the smiles!

Lane Playground Gets a Mulch Facelift!

After enduring years of pounding by hundreds of little feet, the mulch surface of Lane's main playground had grown dangerously thin in some places, sharp and ragged in others. This fall, a new layer of fresh mulch was laid down to protect Lane students and all children who play on our playground. It was out with the old and in with new one sunny October afternoon!

Before applying the fresh layer of mulch,
workers scraped away the old covering,
down to the bare earth.
Huge tubes ran from the truck to the playground ...

... and the mulch was sprayed on!
Ah ... a nice, fresh, safe blanket on which
to play (and land).
