How do I find out who will be my child's teacher?
An information letter will go out toward the end of August with all pertinent information including the bus transportation schedule.
top of page
Where is my child's bus stop?
You will receive a list of the bus stops and locations with the information letter you receive in August. Be at the closest bus stop five minutes before the scheduled time. At the beginning of the school year, it takes a few days to establish the regular schedule, so buses may be running a little late -- please be patient.

I will be driving my child to school. What time should we arrive?
Walking and Kiss-and-Ride students should arrive at school between 8:50 and 9:00 am. There is no supervision for children before 8:50 am unless they go to breakfast. Breakfast begins at 8:30 a.m.

How can my child find the correct classroom on the first day of school?
School staff and adult volunteers will be available to help all children find their classrooms during the first days of school. Younger children should wear tags with name, room number and bus number on them.

Will there be an opportunity to meet my child's teacher before school starts?
Yes. Lane always hosts an Open House the week before school starts. This is a chance for you to come with your child, meet the teacher, and visit the classroom.

What supplies will my child need?
Supply lists were sent home with progress reports in June and are posted on the Lane ES website. Teachers will have lists available and may also request additional items. All students should have and use bookbags or backpacks. Be sure to label all belongings with the child's name. DO NOT PURCHASE OR USE ADHESIVE BOOK COVERS--THEY DAMAGE TEXTBOOKS.

Will breakfast be served? How much does lunch cost?
Breakfast will be available at 8:30 a.m. The cost is $1.50 ; 30 cents for those who qualify for reduced prices. Lunch, including milk, can be purchased for $2.40; reduced price is 40 cents. You may apply money to your child's lunch card in advance to avoid problems of lost or forgotten lunch money or lunches. Lunch cards are kept in the cafeteria and any amount of money can be applied. Students who were on free or reduced lunch last year will continue on this program for the first month of school; however, a new application must be filled out and submitted for this school year. Applications have been mailed to everyone enrolled in FCPS last year. Please contact the school if you need an application.

What if my child needs to take medication on an on-going basis at school?
Children are not permitted to carry any type of medication in school. Aspirin, Tylenol, short-term medications (10 days or less), etc., cannot be administered without a special form signed by the parent. This form is available from the clinic or office. For long-term medication (11 days or more) the physician's signature and instructions for administering the medication are required on this form. ALL MEDICATION MUST BE IN THE ORIGINAL CONTAINER. All medications are kept in a locked closet in the clinic. Medication must be brought to and from school by a parent or guardian and not by the child.

Can you help me find day care for my child?
If your child will be attending a day care, please let the office know. We do not provide a list of local day care providers because we cannot attest to the organization's qualifications. Fairfax County does have a School-Aged Child Care (SACC) program operating at Lane. For information call 703-449-8989. The names and numbers of private daycare providers may be requested by calling the Office for Children 703-324-8000.

What can I do to help at the school?
Lane is very fortunate to have such caring and involved parents. We are always grateful for any volunteer help we can get. If you're interested in volunteering or would like more information, please contact Parent Liaison Melanie Crosby Hardy at 703-924-7712 or Melanie.Crosby@fcps.edu.
Our PTA is also always looking for volunteer help, too. We encourage you to join the PTA and sign up to work on a committee. Meetings are held the first Tuesday of every month in the Library at 7:00 p.m. and all are invited. You can find more PTA information on their website, www.lanepta.org.
