SOL Writing Test - 8th and 11th grade
Dear Parents,
The Virginia Department of Education requires that students in grades 8 and 11 take the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) English Writing test. The test has two components, multiple choice and direct writing. The multiple choice test will be administered on Tuesday, March 6th and the direct writing test will be administered on Wednesday, March 7th.  In order for a student to receive a score they must complete both parts of the exam.  Make up sessions for both parts will be offered on Thursday March 8th.
VDOE releases sample sets of Standards of Learning (SOL) tests that were administered to Virginia public school students during the previous spring test administration. The released tests are not inclusive of all SOL tests administered during the previous year; however, the tests are representative of the content and skills assessed.
Please visit the following website http://www.doe.virginia.gov/testing/sol/released_tests/index.shtml to view these previously released tests.

It is important that your student be prepared to test by getting a good night’s sleep, eating a healthy breakfast and wearing comfortable clothing on the day(s) of the test.

The mission of FCPS Department of Accountability is to improve the achievement of all students and performance system wide by promoting valid data-based decision making. At the middle school level, BART (Benchmark Assessment and Reporting Tool) testing provides schools with a set of electronically administered and scored achievement tests designed to provide accurate and immediate achievement data throughout the school year. These test scores for reading and mathematics in grades 7 & 8 are used by teachers to plan instruction and prepare students for the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) tests.

FCPS standardized tests include the CoGAT, administered in October, for newly registered grade 7 students; the Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test, administered in November, for selected students; and the SOL tests administered in March and May. The Standards of Learning (SOL) for Virginia Public Middle Schools describe the Commonwealth's expectations for student learning and achievement in English, mathematics, science, history/social science.
