MATH

Description of the Lake Braddock Middle School MATH program:

The LBSS Middle School math program is comprised of five different math courses; Mathematics 7, Algebra I Honors, Mathematics 8, Algebra I, and Geometry Honors. Math 7 and 8 is a two-year program designed to prepare students for Algebra I in the 9th grade. Content is composed of four primary mathematical strands, the Language of Algebra, Proportional Reasoning, Quantitative Literacy and Space and Shapes. For advanced math students Algebra I is offered in the 7th grade for those students who have passed a county defined set of prerequisites. Algebra I is also offered in the 8th grade. For students who took Algebra I in the 7th grade and earned an A or B, Geometry Honors is offered in the 8th. Algebra I and Geometry Honors are high school courses and as such, will be placed on a students final high school transcript. For the students not quite ready for Algebra I in the seventh grade, the middle school offers a "Mathematics 7 Honors" course with a strong enrichment-based curriculum branching into upper level mathematics.
